WHAT, AMERICANS ARE ARROGANT??

I  enjoyed reading about the IT firm looking for someone with enough respect and humility to be an effective ambassador to Chinese businesses.

So what happened?  The uptight ''Thought and Motive Police" flipped out at the "offensive and inappropriate" language in the posting.  They justified their histrionics by pulling the "it sounds like national origin discrimination" card.

Oh really, My. Attorney.  Did anyone work with the IT firm to determine intent before erecting another knee-jerk gallows for someone trying to address a legitimate cultural issue in business?  Of course not.

The problem is not one of 'national origin discrimination'.  Rather it has to do with how a private firm, trying to build its business, needs to posture itself with foreign cultures, and their markets.  Sounds like good stewardship to me.

They want people - Americans - of good character.  Oh, God forbid that such market freedom to choose could exist today.  Guess what:  I don't want "arrogant Americans" working for me in my business.  Such peolple are self-serving know-it-alls that live by the entitlement mantra - I deserve to be treated however it suits me.  They consume company time and energy, and produce discord.

Come on, you all know people like that.  Today, America is only the richest, most convenient, safest, and still freest nation on the planet.  For the most part we are an ungratefule people, because the God who made covenant with us to bless us so is relegated to window shopping at school, city hall, hospital, the media, in fact most everywhere.  He is uninvited, no, rather He has been evicted.  He wants in, but we are too intelligent to want Him.

So what is left?  Man in his finite wisdom is left to himself to correct the endless messes we make.  We do a poor job, blame God for problems and tragedies, and create a new postmodern culture with our man-made gods, that we reinvent as they inevitablly fail us.

Now tell me, is not this the pinnacle of arrogance?  My advice to business owners:  hire American, but hire humble.
